  • Overview

    Perform the functions of a Bi-lingual Spanish medical interpreter to assist in the communication between Limited English Proficient patients and staff.

    This position home site is based in Framingham however this position supports the Metro West Region including Framingham, Southboro and Westboro locations. 

    Responsibilities

    Perform medical interpreter duties as needed.  Serve as the communication tool between Limited English Proficient patients, medical providers and staff.

     

    Maintain and ensure the confidentiality of patients and their medical information at all times.

     

    Attend and participate in in-service training programs and other activities geared towards medical interpreters.

     

    Interpreters are not to give any medical advice or input under any circumstances.

     

    Interpreters are to make medical providers aware of any cultural issues in order for them to provide appropriate medical care.

     

    Confirm patient’s medical appointments prior to the appointment date as requested.

     

    Assist in conference calls whenever necessary to communicate with Limited English Proficient patients via telephone.

     

    Sustain collaborative, professional relationships with Limited English Proficient patients and all staff.

     

    Initiate accurate documentation of interpretation and provide appropriate paperwork to

     

    Interpreter Service office in a timely manner in accordance with the department protocol.

     

    Perform or assist with Interpreter Service office support duties as required or directed.

     

    Provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.

     

    Comply with health and safety requirements and with regulatory governing agencies.

     

    Comply with Corporate and Department protocols, policies, procedures, and objectives.

     

    Enhance professional growth and development through educational programs, seminars, etc. 

     

    Attend a variety of meetings, conferences, and seminars as required or directed.

     

    Perform other similar and related duties as required or directed.

     

    Must have reliable means of transportation to all supported sites.

     

    Regular, reliable and predicable attendance is required.

    Qualifications

    Fully Bi-lingual, Bi-cultural. High School graduate. Medical Interpreter certificate required with emphesis on Spanish. Minimum of one year Bi-lingual medical interpretation experience.  Proficiency in both languages with the ability to read and write.  Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. Knowledge of various software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook etc.
