Responsible for patient care, resource management and fiscal management for nursing and related clinical services. Plans and coordinates nursing services throughout the organization. Plans, formulates policy and makes administrative decisions with particular reference to the role, functions, and operation of nursing services. Develops nursing education to enhance the practice of nurses and related clinical staff.
Ensures delivery of quality patient care by nursing personnel and other staff through effective planning, organization, and evaluation of use of material, fiscal and human resources. Assesses the quality of care provided by nursing and related clinical services. Integrates the Nursing Philosophy along with the mission, vision, values, goals and objectives of the organization.
Defines and maintains the standards of nursing practice within the organization. Collaborates with Chief of Population Health or others to ensure one standard of care and practice for professional nursing and related clinical services throughout the organization. Develops, reviews and revises policies and procedures that govern nursing services and the delivery of clinical services.
Direct and supervise assigned personnel. Selects, educates/orients and assigns department staff for the effective utilization and development of relevant skills. Evaluates performance and initiates or recommends personnel actions such as merit increase, promotions, transfers, disciplinary or similar actions. Encourages professional growth and development of personnel through in-service education and other programs. Resolves grievances and other personnel problems within position responsibility.
Develops and implements plans within areas of responsibility in order to respond to changing programs, fluctuating patient volume, staffing and related issues. Ensure that practices and management are up-to-date to enhance patient outcomes and staff morale.
Develops, implements and recommends appropriate changes relevant to practices and policies.
Works in collaboration with other vice presidents, physicians, directors, managers and others, balancing multiple priorities, in order to remove organizational barriers and develop and foster partnerships to enhance patient care.
Provides consultation, counsel and guidance to senior leadership in the effective and appropriate application of practices and procedures. Confers with manager or others to review and discuss a variety of programmatic and budget issues, particularly those requiring additional resources and/or exceptions to existing budget constraints.
Coordinates the preparation of the division budget and identifies variances. Prepares capital equipment budget with input from directors and others and approves recommendations. Monitors expenses to stay within budget.
Proactively works to assure patient satisfaction. Assures prompt resolution of all patient complaints, problems and issues.
Develops, recommends and administers short, intermediate and long-range planning for assigned services. This involves the marketing efforts to strengthen market share and includes the development and maintenance of recognition programs for all services.
Manages resources in an economically constricting environment while maintaining the quality services offered.
Oversees the development of applicable policies and procedures. Ensures compliance to all regulatory agencies. Develops and maintains procedures necessary to meet regulatory requirement.
Serves on cross-functional teams to review, evaluate and recommend changes to operations and procedures to improve organization-wide operation and efficiencies.
Develops and coordinates professional development continuing education programs for nursing and related clinical staff. Facilitates learning activities consistent with expected clinical performance, such as the coordination of CPR training, training related to new equipment, implementation of new policies and procedures, development of clinical competencies etc.
Serves as a role model and resource to the nursing staff and related clinical staff providing patient care services. Serves as a spokesperson for nursing matters and represents the organization with professional nursing.
Participates on a variety of committees and activities internal and external to the organization..
Encourages and supports research and improvement studies that can make meaningful contributions to the quality and economy of nursing services.
Coordinates the assignment of tasks and helps resolve technical and operational problems. Evaluates the impact of solutions to ensure goals are achieved.
Provides effective direction, guidance, and leadership over the staff for effective teamwork and motivation, and fosters the effective integration of efforts with organization-wide initiatives.
Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies such as DPH, etc. Develops and maintains procedures necessary to meet regulatory requirement.
Ensures that assigned area comply with established policies, quality assurance programs, safety, and infection control policies and procedures.
Ensures adequate equipment and supplies for assigned area.
Ensures compliance to all health and safety regulations and requirements.
Performs similar or related duties as required or directed.
Master’s degree in Nursing, and seven (7) to ten (10) years’ relevant experience. Five years’ experience in medical acute or ambulatory care. Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse licensure and registration. Demonstrated leadership experience. Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated knowledge of change management, budgeting practices, nursing practice standards, process improvement, and program development. Demonstrated knowledge of a variety of mandatory programs such as fire and safety, infection control/universal precautions, patient bill of rights, BLS, etc. Knowledge of various software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
